Cantabs last league match was in March 2020 and the curtailment of League rugby that month robbed us of a chance of the London 3 Eastern Counties title, with our last two home games having been cancelled by Covid. As it was we finished runners up to West Norfolk by a solitary point.
All that is but a distant memory, and the two clubs now will resume the battle in London 2NE having both been promoted. For Cantabs 1st XV, captained by Danny Richards, the vistors to Sedley Taylor Road are Stowmarket RFC. Kick off will be at 15.00 on a great looking pitch which has benefitted from some sand and topsoil, and a year's rest and has been presented at its best for some years, by groundsman Marc Taylor.
Some serious work has also been undertaken in the old Clubhouse with a new porch and modern cladding added, to freshen the image, together with completely revamped toilets, and modern lighting where it was badly needed. We have freshened up the old place, but for those of you who want to see the clubhouse as they will remember it; we have largely left the main room untouched, and it is now unclutted. Come down and cast your eyes over the refurbishment. The work was undertaken by Crofton Interiors, a company owned by Glen Remnant our head coach, and what a great job his team have done.
We have tapped the London Pride, and on Saturday our members and guests can also meet our new President, ex player Elliot Stewart who will be donning his chef's hat at the BBQ, ably assisted by Alison. Get down to the Club enjoy Elliot's hospitality and watch some competitive rugby played by our lads. The BBQ will be served from 13.00 and at a price of just £10 that includes your first pint.
Our 2nd XV, captained by Gary Nightingale, will also be hosting Mildenhall and Red Lodge on the adjacent pitch with their game kicking off an hour earlier to allow our coaches the opportunity of seeing the rest of the squad in a competitive match for the first time in eighteen months. So plenty of rugby on offer - don't miss out!
