Cantabs Camp - Pre-season fun in the sun

Cantabs headed off to Canterbury for the weekend for their annual pre-season camp. This year we were hosted by friend of the club and Fiji rugby legend Nicky Little.

After arriving on Friday evening, tents were pitched, leaving just enough time for a quick game of kick tennis on the 3G before lighting up the barbecue. Tom Bailey displayed his excellent knife skills in fashioning some beautiful salad bowls (good nutrition is vital) and Adam Fastnedge provided the evenings entertainment in the form of an elaborate fire dance.

We awoke early Saturday morning to a beautiful clear day and set off for a quick warm up jog across the fields before a hearty breakfast. We then spent the rest of the morning working on our attacking and defensive structures, looking at exploiting space and working the ball into the wide channels.

With the sun beating down there was a chance for the forwards and backs to split and work on group skills and structures for the new season and spend some time working on the details.

We then took a short and well needed (in the case of Nuggets shoulders) relief from the sun to watch the Premiership final before a recovery session in the pool, although Perksy (aka Nuggets dad) had to sit much of it out due to an inability to differentiate between the deep and shallow end.

The day finished with a cool down session before beers around the barbecue and a short walk into town to sample the delightful nightlife of Canterbury.

Another early start on Sunday in a roasting hot tent was welcomed by a few sore heads but nothing that a quick morning jog wouldnt sort!

A 3rd barbecue of the weekend for breakfast re-charged the boys before we hit the 3G for some touch drills although some stiff legs definitely took some of the top end pass out of some! With the number of walking wounded racking up we struck camp and went for a final recovery pool session / volleyball competition before heading back to Cambridge.

Another great weekend and a great way to start off pre-season, our thanks go to the coaches, Glen and Will for organising and to Nicky Little and all at Simon Langton School for hosting. Bring on pre-season
