Cantabs 2s beat Ely to Wrap up season

Cantabs 2s traveled to Ely looking to wrap up the season with a win.

The first half was a turgid affair with neither side performing to there potential and panicked handling meaning that missed opportunities out wide went begging. Cantabs got on the scoreboard first with a try from Tom before Ely replied and dotted down, with the conversion finding its mark Cantabs found themselves on the wrong side of a 7-5 scoreline.

Ill discipline at the breakdown was costing us and getting us on the wrong side of the referee and Cantabs were instructed to switch on in the second half, play for each other and keep it simple.

At the turnaround Cs finally began to work in support and against a tired defense were making yards in the wide channels. Alex came on for Guns and was carrying well, as were the Wilson brothers and Tom was chopping down everything that came his way.

Playing up towards the muddy corner of the pitch the line out was taken well and rumbled on. A few passes out saw puds taken down just short before moving back to the right for Pete to cross, with Euan adding the extras. 7-12.

The lineout failed to function as it had in previous weeks although when the ball went to hand the driving maul became a good attacking weapon. As Cantabs proceeded up the pitch Alex went close on the left, only to be dragged down into the mud bath of the corner, ruining his pristine white shirt much to his (And Robbos dismay). the pressure was relieved by Ely only for Finlay to break down the left following some slick passing to score and allow Euan to add the extras. 7-19.

Wy came on for Janos, with Laurence moving to front row, while Craig came on for Fergus.

Ely came back at Cantabs, using there forwards round the corner and making progress down hill, all the way to the line, where strong ball carrying from there number 8 saw them cross and convert. 14-19.

with fresh legs on Cantabs began to carry with intent and looked to be breaking the line out wide at will. Finlay scorched through again and Tom made it to the corner (winding himself in the process) to take the game away from Ely as the game was closed out with sloppy handling leading to a succession of scrums. Final whistle was blown for an Cantabs victory 29-14.

Celebrations proceeded late into the night at the 2s and 3s dinner, thanks to all those who attended, I trust your hangovers have suitably lifted.

It has been another enjoyable season for the 2s, winning 14 of our 18 league games and putting in an string of good performances. Combined we scored over 800 points and have by far the best points difference and have demonstrated that we can beat any team in the league. Lets see what we can achieve next season!

MOTM: For an excellent all round game, tackling everything that came down his channel and grabbing a brace Tom Skelton take a bow

DOTD: Our perennial dick of the day goes to Finlay for mouthing off at the ref and seeing us moved back 10m

MOTS: The one, the only Tozer Show

DOTS: For shear consistency and turning up in fancy dress as himself, Finlay Wilson.
