After a great 2014/15 season, this weekend saw the mighty 2's make the long trip up to March to kick off the 15/16 campaign against the Bears. A great Cantabs squad plus perfect weather for some running rugby meant that expectations were high. Things got off to a good start with slick hands from the backline quickly recycling the ball to Craig around the half way line, and he managed to dip duck and dodge his way through the March line to dot down in the corner. Lovett added the extras and we were off to a good start.
Our first half performance was measured and fairly dominant, and tries from Dave, Alex and Finn (2) meant we went in to the break with a fairly comfortable lead. Pedro took a rest after a knock, with Alex moving in to the centres and Josh coming on to the wing. Our scrum had been on the front foot all game, and the pressure showed around the 60 minute mark when March ran out of front row options and were forced to go uncontested. However, March did eventually get some points on the board with Cantabs unable to contain phase after phase of pick-and-goes from the home pack.
Charlie Dellar made way for Rich Ford to come on and play out the last half hour, and we picked up more tries via an evasive run by Dave to feed Luke, a break from Craig and some handy footwork from Puds to spin his way over the line. Lovett also knocked over several points, with kicks from hand being shepherded well in to touch and a great percentage from the tee. Final score 54-7, and a solid start to the season for us to build on.
MOTM - Chris Hannaby made his first start for the twos, and really stepped up with his work in the tackles and the breakdown.
DOTD - in true twos tradition, Nat (for not turning up)
