Having arrived in plenty of time Cantabs did not take long to get themselves on the scoreboard with fine forward play, being rewarded by a try for No 8 Bevan Whyte which was not converted.
Following good open play and lineout won on the opposition's 22 metre line, Cantabs pack drove over the line for Jon Perks to touch down for an unconverted try.
However, Lowestoft & Yarmouth soon got their act together and some quick thinking by their scrumhalf which saw him kick through to follow up & touch down under the posts for them to convert.
Leaving the score 15 - 7 at the interval.
How things changed at the start of the second half. L & Y really got the bit between their teeth and fine running from their back line resulted in a try which was converted narrowing the score to 15-14. Soon after the restart, Cantabs are penalised and L & Y sneak into the lead at 15 - 17.
After much improvement, Cantabs find themselves down on the L & Y 22m line where Cantabs centre Dwain Iese drops a goal to put Cantabs back in the lead in what is a very tight first league game of the new season. 18-17
Once again, L & Y fight back and are rewarded with another penalty which is converted to turn the balance once again; 20- 18. L & Y are now applying pressure on Cantabs with plenty of open running which resulted in a try being disallowed as held up. A very lucky escape.
However, after winning a lineout close to the Cantabs line, L & Y spun the ball wide to touch down in the corner for another unconverted try; 25- 18.
Never giving up, Cantabs kept pressuring L & Y and following a quick tap penalty & forward driving, Cantabs were rewarded with a touchdown under the posts (ADD TRY SCORER SOMEONE PLEASE AS I WAS BUSY RUNNING UP AND DOWN THE ****** LINE) which was converted by No 10 Euan Willder to bring the scores level with 5 minutes of play left.
From the restart Cantabs controlled the ball and playing across the park they were able to release Harry Beasley on the right wing who went over in the corner, putting Cantabs back in the lead with just the conversion to round the game off 32-25 to Cantabs in one of the most entertaining opening games of the season.
Also a memorable day for the Club with both 2nds and 3rds winning for a clean sweep of Cantabs Ws.
