Cantabs 2's progress in Cambs Cup

No report from last week as it would have read: they kicked, we dropped it, they scored and played better. So another week and another cup, this time it was Sawston.

Yet again Cantabs pack provided all the grunt and endeavour, with the tight five competing with a much larger pack and driving them off everything. Our back row seemed to be everywhere; Luke kept getting his hands on the ball, Keith tackled everything that moved and Jules was clearly inspired by Louis Picamole and was making hard yards

So it was inevitable that our first try came from a well worked eight pick up for Tom Duesbury to skip over the line. Simon kicked the extras.

Sawston started to put Cantabs under pressure and earned a penalty, he kicked, he missed, Tom dropped it. Their winger caught it and scored a try. Bugger

This really woke us up. Euan and Tom were starting to boss the game. After some clever build up play with Simon and Tom smashing into their brick wall of centres, a clever break by Tom fed Tim who was in close support to dot down.

Our tails were up. Lots more endeavour clever and hard running from Fin and Dave, helped Euan find the gap. Simon added the extras.

Mikey Goode came on for Wiz, Justin swapped with Tim and Ryan came on for Matt. A little bit later a catch and drive got held up. So we tried it again and Luke dotted down. Not long later Denman made his way through following a clever offload from Simon. It must be said Denman was leading the team really well and seemed to relish the chance of 80 minutes of rugby.

They scored again but Cantabs retaliated with a catch and drive in the opposition 22 which led to Mikey’s diving a great try in the corner.

A huge improvement from last weekend, Wendens Ambo next week in the next round. Onwards and Upwards. Unfortunately the two’s don’t seem to be missing their injured captain.
