The second teams first league outing of the season

Cantabs started the game brightly, matching Cambridge in the loose and out muscling them on more than one occasion. The only problem was we just couldn't get our hands on the ball. Turning point of the half could have been the five tries they scored out wide exposing a lack of communication and poor drift defence, I like to think it was Denman body slamming their scrum half! The first half was truly the Exiles'. Cantabs fronted up, never took a backward step but had nothing to show for it and looked over awed by a good Cambridge team

After some home truths at half time Cantabs came out flying, 'Sonny Bill' Heaver started to open his box of tricks, Denman, Ian and Fraser were punching holes all over the place. It took a little bit of magic from Heaver to feed Denman who crashed over the line from close range. We were back in it. Another piece of good build up play left a hole for Tom Skelton to expose, sprint 40 yards, get caught by the winger from the other side of the park and offload to young Tim who scored. Not far now.

More scuffle Cantabs forced Cambridge deep into their own territory with some great play from forwards and backs alike. Another Heaver-Denman combination lead to the prop going over for his second.

Unfortunately that was that for the Cantabs scores, we did concede another but it was the last play of the game and Cantabs really had left nothing in the tank.

A huge thank you to everyone that played particularly the substitutes who where: Guns, Henry, Ginger Geoff, Young Tim, Nat, Chris Law and Matt Shepherd.

It was a great game to be involved in Cantabs gave their all, lots of positives to build on and some things that must put right, particularly as our next game is against Bury Wolves.
