Cantabs 42 - 9 Ipswich

Cantabs finally got to take to the field after 2 weeks of frozen pitches meant the cup game against Ipswich had been postponed. Both teams we up for what looked to be an intriguing encounter with Ipswich unbeaten in EC2 and having already beaten 2 teams from EC1 they were looking to see how their season was progressing.

The game started off with both teams showing the break in games has removed some sharpness, knocking on and giving away silly penalties, however it was Cantabs who took first blood Ali kicking a penalty to make it 3-0. Some fine work from the forwards allowed Steve Cowperthwaite to touch down in the corner to give a 8—0 lead. However Ipswich’s excellent line out and tough rucking game kept them in close contention and some sloppy mistakes from Cantabs allowed 2 penalties to be kicked, making it 8-6. During the later stages of the 1st half Cantabs started to finally put some phases together allowing Irish James to cross over for a try which Ali converted to make the half time score 15-6.

The second half started brightly, although giving a penalty away let Ipswich claw back some points making it 15-9, but from there on Cantabs dominance started to show.

Despite the sin binning of Warren Cantabs started to play the running game which has paid dividends in the campaign with hard tight play and some excellent running the score started to get away from Ipswich in the second half. Ali, Warren, Nick and Francois all crossed the line to make the score line a little more comfortable

Ipswich played their part in what was a very tough fought game but excellent performances from François on the wing and Sam in the back row meant Cantabs are through to another stage of the cup.
