Cantabs push Walden all the way in Pre-season

Cantabs second warm-up game of this campaign was away to Saffron Walden 1st XV. Cantabs fielded what coach Steve Drawbridge described as a "strong 2nd XV", comprising mostly 2nds with a number of last season's 1st XV. The game was used to look at the strength of our squad and was broken down into four 20 minute quarters and was played in extremely warm conditions. Both Steve and Mick Jones reported that they were pleased with the squad and claimed a moral victory; only losing by dint of penalties kicked by Walden. Final score 20 - 17 to Walden

First fixture in the London League, Division 3NE, is on Saturday 15th September away at Norwich. This will be our first fixture in the London League for 20 years! Cantabs expect to field a strong XV for the game, which will undoubtedly give a good indication as to the Club's ability at this new level, following promotion last season from Eastern Counties 1.

Our first home fixture for the 1st XV will be on 29th September against Harlow. Jeff Railton is providing a pre-match BBQ, as is the tradition for our initial home league fixture. Get down to Sedley Taylor Road to keep Jeff busy in front of the hot charcoal and then support the lads in their attempt to extend their unbeaten run at Sedley Taylor Road towards two years.

All of last season's squad are available for the 2012/13 season and we have further improved our strength in depth with a number of new faces, who will be pushing the old guard.

Good Luck to all our playing members and their coaches for the new season and let's keep Cantabrigian RUFC the top truly amateur club in the County.
